Granlund’s emission reduction targets approved by SBTi
28.3.2025 – Granlund’s emission reduction targets have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The aim of SBTi is to stop global warming at the critical 1.5 degrees. Companies round the world have committed to the initiative.

Granlund’s emission reduction targets have been approved by the international Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). SBTi provides companies with a clear framework for setting science-based emission reduction targets and ensuring that the targets support restricting global warming to 1.5 degrees.
“With global climate emissions continuing to rise, corporate climate action is urgent. All companies have to do their part to enable greenhouse gas emissions to be radically cut,” says Pekka Metsi, CEO, Granlund.

Climate action needed from real estate and construction sector
Granlund’s goal is to systematically reduce the climate emissions arising from its own operations and support the climate work of the real estate and construction sector at large. Construction and buildings account for over one third of global CO2 emissions.
“We want to do our bit, set a good example in our value chain and support the emission reduction targets of our customers,” says Metsi.
The most significant emission sources in the real estate and construction sector include the energy consumption of properties as well as building materials and equipment. Therefore, decisions made in the design and maintenance of buildings play a key role in mitigating climate change.
“We have decades of experience in concrete design solutions and methods to help our customers promote more climate-sustainable construction, property use and maintenance,” says Metsi.
Which emission reductions are we committed to?
In line with the SBTi-approved emission reduction targets, Granlund is committed to reducing the absolute scope 1 and scope 2 emissions of its own vehicles and purchased energy 80% by 2030 from a 2023 base year.
The scope 3 emissions arising from employee commuting and business travel will be cut by 42% by 2030.
Granlund also requires computer and other capital goods suppliers in its supply chain to set SBTi targets by 2029.
“SBTi provides us with an impartial and reliable way to ensure that we are on the right track and that we are focusing on the issues most relevant to our operations in terms of reducing emissions,” says Maila Herva, Quality and Sustainability Director, Granlund.
The Science Based Targets initiative is backed by CDP (the Carbon Disclosure Project), the UN Global Compact initiative, the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). In line with the Paris Agreement, the goal of the initiative is to stop the rise in the average global temperature at 1.5 degrees Celsius. It requires greenhouse gas emissions to be halved by 2030 and achieving net zero emissions (the SBTi Net-Zero Standard) by 2050.
