Granlund strengthens MEP design in Sweden
9.4.2025 – Umeå Projekt Team AB joins Granlund Group through acquisition. The company focuses on MEP design and project management.

Granlund is expanding its operations to northern Sweden through a strategic majority acquisition of Umeå Projekt Team AB (UPT). The acquired company focuses on MEP design and project management, employing a total of 23 experts. UPT was founded in 2007 and had a turnover of 2.8 M€ in 2024.
With the acquisition, Granlund’s business network will expand to new areas in Sweden. “We see strong growth potential in Sweden. Our goal is to expand in our neighbouring country, both geographically and through our services. It is great to have UPT join the Granlund Group to strengthen our local expertise in MEP design,” comments Pekka Metsi, CEO of Granlund.
Both companies have strong technical expertise and long-term customer relationships
Tobias Broddeskog, one of the owners and head of marketing at Umeå Projekt Team, sees the acquisition as a significant development opportunity for them. He sees a lot in common between the companies’ operations. “Granlund has strong technical expertise and long-term customer relationships. These are things that we strongly value in UPT’s operations as well,” he says.
There is also a lot in common in the corporate cultures. “Both companies highly value their experts, and take good care of their competence and well-being,” Broddeskog adds.
The acquisition by a larger company will enable UPT to expand its operations into new customer sectors and services. “Granlund has special expertise and services in many areas, such as energy and sustainability issues as well as the utilisation of data and digital solutions, which we are happy to start developing at UPT as well,” says Broddeskog. The common area of expertise is the healthcare and hospital sectors, where both companies have been operating for a long time.

Co-operation between Vaasa and Umeå
The aim is also to intensify cooperation between Granlund’s Vaasa regional office and Umeå, which are geographically very close to each other. “This creates opportunities for joint projects and operational development, for example,” says Timo Palonkoski, Granlund’s Business Development Director.
Granlund already has three subsidiaries in Sweden. There are two companies operating in Stockholm, one of which focuses on electrical design and the other on structural engineering and data center projects. In addition, the Lidköping-based company focuses on the data center business. In total, the company has approximately 60 employees in Sweden. On 3 April, Granlund also announced acquisition of Coordia Consult AB in Stockholm, Sweden. With these two new acquisitions, the number of employees in Sweden will almost double.
After the acquisition, Umeå Projekt Team will continue to operate as a subsidiary of Granlund Oy as part of the Group. The owners of the company, Ulf Karlsson, Pär Rhenberg, Tobias Broddeskog, Thomas Gothnell and Jon Tykosson, will continue in the company in their current roles and as partners. “For us at Granlund, it is important that the company’s key persons continue in the company, and we develop the operations further together,” says Timo Palonkoski.
